Morley Companies, a data analytics firm, reached a $4.3 million settlement with individuals affected by a data breach in August 2021. The breach affected approximately 694,000 individuals.
Under the terms of the settlement, individuals who were affected by the breach can receive up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket expenses that are reasonably traceable to the breach. They can also receive up to 12 months of free password management services.
The breach was first reported in February 2022. Morley Companies said that the breach was caused by a “sophisticated” cyberattack. The company said that the attackers were able to gain access to its systems and steal data on approximately 694,000 individuals.
The data that was stolen included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth. Morley Companies said that it has taken steps to improve its cybersecurity measures in the wake of the breach.
The settlement was approved by a federal judge in September 2023. Individuals who were affected by the breach have until March 20, 2023, to file a claim for reimbursement.
