There have been a couple of lawsuits involving the “Slap Ya Mama” brand, each with a different focus:
Trademark Infringement:
- 2009: Walker & Sons, the makers of Slap Ya Mama, filed a lawsuit against a Houma, Louisiana entrepreneur named Kirby Falcon for allegedly infringing on their trademark with his seasoning line called “Punch Ya Daddy.” Walker & Sons claimed that the name and packaging design of “Punch Ya Daddy” were too similar to their own and were likely to cause confusion among consumers. The outcome of this lawsuit is unclear.
False Advertising:
- 2015: A lawsuit was filed against Walker & Sons alleging that their labeling of Slap Ya Mama seasoning as “all-natural” was false and misleading. The lawsuit claimed that the seasoning contained ingredients that were not natural, such as disodium inosinate and guanylate. The lawsuit was eventually settled, with Walker & Sons agreeing to change the labeling of their seasoning.
